PORCELAIN MINIATURES BY PENNY MUELLER
The guest artist at the Guild's April 2019 general meeting was Penny Mueller from Busselton, WA. Penny's talk showed members how she created her miniatures.
The miniature portrait brooches are hand painted with on-glaze paint and kiln fired to 800°C and are only 40x30mm in size. Other tiny items included miniature tea sets and collections with individual items as small as 10mm. Note the miniature 'painting collection', with tiny books, brushes and even a spray painting gun in its box!
Penny will be exhibiting at the Guild's annual exhibition at the Guildford Town Hall on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th May, 2019 (see above for more details) this is an excellent opportunity to see more of this remarkable artist's work.
LIFE MEMBER ESSIE STOKES
100th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
At the April 6th, 2019 general meeting, the Guild celebrated the 100th birthday of long time member Essie Stokes.
Essie was completely surprised when presented with a birthday cake and flowers and was congratulated and given best wishes for her 100th birthday which she celebrated during the week. President, Irena Kopec went on to detail Essie’s outstanding service to the Guild stating:
“Essie joined the Guild in 1982, becoming a Committee member on 30/11/1982 taking on the role as Assistant Librarian. Over the years Essie has held many positions on the Committee. Secretary, Vice President, President, Treasurer, Assistant Secretary and Workshop Coordinator. Essie has been on the Committee continuously for 26 years of her 27 years in the Guild.
Whilst dedicating much time to the Guild over many of her earlier years, she still pursued her painting and produced beautiful work to support the Guild’s Exhibitions each year.
Essie has given outstanding dedication to the Guild, through her long and continuing membership of the Committee and promotion of the Guild. Due to this commitment Essie was bestowed life membership in 2001. Without such dedicated workers behind the scenes, the Guild would not be the success it is. Love and best wishes from all your friends and fellow members of the WA Guild of China Painters – you are a treasure!”
Essie’s friends and fellow Guild members went on to celebrate the occasion with a delicious afternoon tea.

ALBANY PORCELAIN ART WORKSHOP 2019
The Albany Porcelain Art Workshop was held in Albany on the south coast of Western Australia on Monday 18th through to Wednesday 20th March, 2019. Three classes ran concurrently with students selecting the class of their choice.
'Irises' was the class subject chosen by Judith Standing. The flowers and foliage were painted in a traditional fashion and several different techniques were discussed to complete the beautiful designs.
Anne Blake from Perth painted 'Wildflower Designs for Boxes'. Each student chose their own wildflower and created a design to complement the shape and size of their porcelain box. Various techniques and products were considered to finish each design.
Artist and teacher Trixie Emery, now based in South Australia, returned for the 2019 workshop. Her subject was 'Tigers' with the animals painted in a traditional fashion. Students finished their plates choosing from a range of suggestions demonstrated by Trixie.
Congratulations to the President, Brenda Caelli and committee of the Albany Porcelain Art Workshop for running a well organised, friendly and very enjoyable event. Students travelled from both Perth and country centres to participate. This wonderfully unique event is a great opportunity to combine three days of china painting and learning with a holiday in the beautiful south coast city of Albany.

BOOK RELEASE - GOLDEN REFLECTIONS: A CELEBRATION OF 50 YEARS
To coincide with the Guild's 50th Anniversary Celebrations in 2014 the book 'Golden Reflections: A Celebration of 50 Years' written by Kaye MacLean and Anne Blake was published.
The book looks at china painting in Western Australia from the early 1900s, the foundation of the WA Guild of China Painters in 1964 and follows the development of the Guild through to its Golden Anniversary year in 2014. The book was launched by the former State Premier, Hon Richard Court AC at the special reunion function held by the Guild on the 2nd May, 2014.
All proceeds from the sale of the book go to the WA Guild of China Painters.
On Friday 2nd May 2014, past and present members of the West Australian Guild of China painters met for a special function to celebrate the Guild's 50th Anniversary Year. Held at the Guildford Town Hall, the event was staged against the backdrop of the 2014 Annual Exhibition’s exhibits and display which had been set up the previous day in readiness for the annual exhibition.
Guests enjoyed viewing the spectacular '50 Years of China Painting' exhibition which was organised and staged by Heather Tailor to coincide with celebrations. Many artists and collectors had loaned significant pieces for this exhibition and other items were taken from the Guild's Collectables (see Gallery 1). Without doubt it was one of the best displays of WA porcelain art ever seen and the intense interest from guests and later visitors to the annual exhibition bear this out.
Following refreshments the proceedings moved to the launch of the history book Golden Reflections - A Celebration of 50 Years. The book written by Guild life members Anne Blake and Kaye MacLean was officially launched by former State Premier, Hon Richard Court AC. See link above to additional article.
The ladies of the WAGCP Committee can be very proud of the Golden Anniversary Reunion which members will no doubt recall very fondly when reflecting on the Guild's first 50 Years!
