WA GUILD OF CHINA PAINTERS -
2014 Golden Jubilee Reunion Day & Book Launch
On Friday 2nd May 2014, past and present members of the West Australian Guild of China painters met at the Guildford Town Hall for a reunion afternoon tea to celebrate 50 years since the foundation of the Guild.
On arrival invited guests were presented with a special golden presentation pack which contained amongst other things a commemorative brochure containing a special message from the Patroness Philippa Nikulinsky and President Heather Tailor. Sadly Philippa was unable to join the celebrations due to prior commitments.
Many former members were reacquainted with old friends and current members were able to meet those who had gone before them.
Among the guests were 10 former presidents as well as the current president Heather Tailor. Shown below the former presidents were (from left to right):
There were two members who were present at the foundation meeting of the Guild held on 31st March, 1964, Georgie Dwyer, now 99 years old and Mavis Bell and two members who joined the Guild during its first year, Adelphe King and Heather Tailor, all were presented with a special posy of flowers. Shown at right (L to R) Mavis Bell, Adelphe King and Georgie Dwyer.
After a period of time to catch up with old friends the proceedings moved to the launch of the history book 'Golden Reflections - A Celebration of 50 Years'. The book was written by Guild members Kaye MacLean and Anne Blake and was officially launched by Former State Premier Hon Richard Court AC.
Mr Court who was accompanied by his wife Jo, then enjoyed a tour of the exhibition. Of particular interest to them was the '50 Years of China Painting' exhibit which was organised by Heather Tailor as a special event to coincide with the jubilee celebrations. Without doubt one of the best displays of WA porcelain art seen. It is the intention of the Guild, at a later date, to produce a commemorative catalogue of the exhibits for future reference.
Congratulations to the ladies of the WA Guild of China Painters Committee who should be very proud of the success of the Golden Anniversary Reunion Day!
